Granny:  It's better to be hated for who you are, than to be loved for who you are not.

The only people to get even with are those who have helped you.

No man stands as tall, than he who stoops to help a friend.

The hands of  Jealousy soon get burnt.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said:  Whatever games are played with us, we must play no games with ourselves, but deal in our privacy with the last honesty and truth.

Willam Blake:  No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings.

One of my very favorites:

Mark Twain once said:  Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. "Small" people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

Napoleon Bonaparte:  Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.

Sir Winston Churchill:  A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get it's pants on.

Plato:  Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.

My best friend Cindy always says:  People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.  I am not only lucky, but fortunate she is in my life for a lifetime.  A true friend always walks in, when everyone else walks out.  She's never walked out.

Old Irish toasts

May your neighbors respect you, trouble neglect you, the angels protect you and heaven accept you.

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be ever at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields.

And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
